Advice from Division I Directors of Athletics for Early Career Major Gift Fundraisers

Dr. Jason Penry, founder of Penry Advisors, sought advice from 20 Division I directors of athletics on effective strategies for early career major gift fundraisers. The advice centers on practical and actionable approaches. In the first part of the series, ten directors stressed the importance of external skills, such as displaying genuine enthusiasm and building authentic relationships by listening and uncovering donors' passions. The second and final installment focused on internal communication and accountability, highlighting the significance of understanding departmental visions, following through on goals, and involving team members in the giving process.
